Self Denial

Don’t let others condemn you by giving you rules of ‘don’t taste,’ ‘don’t eat,’ ‘don’t handle…’

Read: Colossians 2:18,22-23

18 Don’t let anyone condemn you by insisting on pious self-denial or the worship of angels, saying they have had visions about these things. Their sinful minds have made them proud,

22 Such rules are mere human teachings about things that deteriorate as we use them.23 These rules may seem wise because they require strong devotion, pious self-denial, and severe bodily discipline. But they provide no help in conquering a person’s evil desires.

Philosophies

Don’t let empty philosophies turn you from the truth.

Read: Colossians 2:8-10

8 Don’t let anyone capture you with empty philosophies and high-sounding nonsense that come from human thinking and from the spiritual powers of this world, rather than from Christ. 9 For in Christ lives all the fullness of God in a human body. 10 So you also are complete through your union with Christ, who is the head over every ruler and authority

Inside

Understand it is not what’s on the outside but what’s on the inside that defiles a person.

Read: Mark 7:18,20-23

18 “Don’t you understand either?” he asked. “Can’t you see that the food you put into your body cannot defile you?

20 And then he added, “It is what comes from inside that defiles you. 21 For from within, out of a person’s heart, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, 22 adultery, greed, wickedness, deceit, lustful desires, envy, slander, pride, and foolishness. 23 All these vile things come from within; they are what defile you.”

Refuse

The action you should take is simply refuse all corruption.

Read: James 1:26-27

26 If you claim to be religious but don’t control your tongue, you are fooling yourself, and your religion is worthless. 27 Pure and genuine religion in the sight of God the Father means caring for orphans and widows in their distress and refusing to let the world corrupt you.
